5 or so years ago when I started this blog I did on a GoDaddy VPS because I thought it might be a “fun” project. Unfortunately I didn’t exactly stay on top of the system administration, so the VPS got pretty out of date. I went to update it yesterday given the vulnerabilities that were found last week, and…. it didn’t go smoothly. So, rather than spend hours trying to fix it, I decided to just move to managed wordpress hosting. It was reasonably straightforward to migrate – back up some files and the database and upload them to the new hosting company, then they did the rest. We will see how it goes.
Unfortunately I had paid for 2 years of VPS last December, so there is some wasted money there, but in the long run the new option should be cheaper. When my SSL expires I’ll move that off GoDaddy as well. Nothing really against GoDaddy, but they are a little pricy for a person blog I rarely write in.
